PARISH PILGRIMAGE

TO

EL SANTUARIO DE CHIMAYÓ

SATURDAY, MARCH 27, 2010

Gather at Sacred Heart Church in Nambé at

6:00 a.m. to begin Pilgrimage

My Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Pilgrimage has always been a part of our religious tradition in Northern New Mexico. For centuries people have traveled to El Santuario de Chimayó when in need of healing, to ask for favors, and to give thanks to God for the many blessings they have received.

The Cathedral Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi will again hold its annual Lenten Pilgrimage on Saturday, March 27. We will gather at Sacred Heart Church in Nambé at 6:00 a.m. to begin the 8-mile walk of up and down hills.

The intention of the pilgrimage is for the intention of all those affected by the  economic crisis.

There will be sign-up sheets at both entrances of the church for all those interested in taking part in this spiritual walk. You may also call the Parish Office at 982-5619 to sign up. All parishioners and friends are welcome to take part in the Parish Pilgrimage.

Suggested items needed for pilgrimage: rosary, hat or cap, warm jacket and gloves (please mark them for easy identification), sun glasses as we face east for most of the walk, comfortable, sturdy walking shoes, and water in bottle or canteen if you need it. You will be asked to abide by the following Pilgrimage protocol: walk in single file, participate in prayer and song, and walk in silent meditation.

Upon arrival, Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. at El Santuario. If you are unable to walk, perhaps you would like to meet the peregrinos (pilgrims) for Mass. A bus will be available to provide transportation back to Nambé to pick up your vehicle. Everyone is welcome. See you there!

I Love You
 Msgr. Jerome
